Together,

Let’s bring Zakat to life in Belgium

The Zakat Foundation of Belgium aims to make a positive impact in Belgium by reviving our ethical Tradition.

  • In this way, we aim to have a positive impact on every aspect of our lives by reviving our ethical Tradition in Belgium with modern tools and a collective, pooled vision

  • Our foundation strives to be a movement that inspires and connects people from every walk of life and every background

Your Zakat transforms lives

The Zakat Foundation of Belgium turns a religious obligation into a driver of social change. By centralising and optimising the distribution of Zakat, we create lasting impact for the most vulnerable members of our society. More than a financial intermediary, we are the bridge between your faith and a fairer Belgium, where Islamic solidarity becomes a source of hope for all.

An ethical ecosystem

A pooled, local Zakat for local needs

We distribute your Zakat according to the eight categories set out in the Quran (9:60), but what does that mean in 2025?

Our social services focus on 4 funds:

Fighting poverty

Poverty is rising in Belgium, widening the gaps within society. More than 735,000 people are struggling to make ends meet and are more likely to fall into debt. By using Zakat in a targeted way, we support people on the path to self-reliance.

In this area, we help beneficiaries cover their basic needs (food, clothing, healthcare) and their unpaid rent, and avoid possible legal action.

Training and education

Self-sufficiency goes hand in hand with training and education. This fund targets two groups:

  • People with little or no work experience who want to return to the job market,
  • Students who are currently studying but cannot complete or continue their studies for lack of funds.

Debt relief

Debt and over-indebtedness remain unresolved challenges in Belgium. As Dettes Conseils Suisse explains, people do not get into debt by choice: debt is usually the result of particular life circumstances, such as unemployment, illness, divorce and so on.

People living in poverty are more likely to fall into a debt spiral. In total, 40% of households supported by debt advice services in Belgium are at risk of poverty. Zakat is here to tackle this challenge by offering a debt relief service that helps people out of the debt spiral.

Reconciling hearts, new Muslims

In a European context, the category of beneficiaries “Mouallafati Qouloubohom” mentioned in the Quran poses a particular challenge. By using Zakat in a targeted way, we support them.

In this area, we help beneficiaries learn about and strengthen their faith, cover their basic needs, combat the loneliness or isolation that sometimes affects them, and settle into their new social and family life.
